Delhi winter is India's best wedding season for photography. Here's why — and how to make the most of the gorgeous winter light.

Why Delhi Winter Is the Best Season for Wedding Photography

Delhi's wedding season — October through February — coincides with the city's most photogenic weather. If you are planning a Delhi NCR wedding and have any flexibility on timing, here is our professional recommendation: book October–November or January–February for the best possible photography results.

The Light in Delhi Winter Is Extraordinary

Soft, Diffused Golden Hour

In summer, Delhi's golden hour lasts barely 20 minutes before the harsh sun becomes unflattering. In winter, the golden hour extends to 45-60 minutes, and the sun stays lower on the horizon throughout the day — creating consistently beautiful, warm light that is flattering on every skin tone and every colour of Indian bridal attire.

The Famous Delhi Fog

From late December through January, Delhi experiences its characteristic morning fog. A foggy morning wedding or pre-wedding shoot creates a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere that is absolutely magical photographically. The Lodhi Garden in morning fog looks like a Mughal miniature painting brought to life.

Clear Blue Skies in October-November

Post-monsoon October and November offer the clearest skies of the year. The blue sky backdrop creates vivid, vibrant outdoor photographs that look like they were shot with a polarising filter on every lens.

Best Outdoor Venues for Winter Wedding Photography

  • Lodhi Garden (fog mornings in January are particularly stunning)
  • Mehrauli Archaeological Park (winter wildflowers)
  • Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary (migratory birds arrive November)
  • Aravalli Biodiversity Park (winter seasonal vegetation)
  • Pataudi Palace gardens (crisp winter light on heritage architecture)

Winter Wedding Photography Tips

  • Schedule outdoor shoots for 3-6 PM for perfect winter golden hour
  • January fog is beautiful but arrives unpredictably — have an indoor backup plan
  • Camera batteries drain faster in cold — carry 4x normal battery count
  • Brides wearing warm colours (red, orange, deep green) look stunning against winter blue skies
