Ever wondered what happens to your wedding photos between the day they are shot and the day you receive them? Here is our complete post-production workflow.

Behind the Scenes: Post-Production at Weddings Mafia

When a wedding day ends at midnight, our photographers' work ends too — but our team's work is just beginning. The post-production process for a single wedding involves thousands of decisions, hours of careful editing, and a multi-stage quality control system. Here is an honest, transparent look at everything that happens to your photographs between the day they are taken and the day they are delivered.

Stage 1: Ingestion and Backup (Day 1)

Before anything else, all RAW files are ingested from memory cards, catalogued in Adobe Lightroom, and backed up to three separate locations:

  • Primary RAID storage server at our studio
  • Local backup hard drives (taken offsite)
  • Cloud backup via Google Cloud Storage

This triple-backup system means your photographs are protected against any single point of failure. The ingestion and backup process for a full-day wedding (approximately 4,000-6,000 RAW files) takes 3-4 hours.

Stage 2: Culling (Days 1-3)

Culling — the process of selecting the best images — is one of the most skill-intensive parts of wedding post-production. Our lead editor reviews every single image and makes three-way decisions: Keep, Maybe, or Reject. For a typical 6,000-image shoot, we select approximately 1,200-1,500 images as "Keep".

Selection criteria include: technical quality (sharpness, exposure, focus), emotional impact, compositional quality, and narrative value (does this image advance the story?).

Stage 3: Base Editing (Days 3-10)

Every selected image receives base editing in Adobe Lightroom:

  • Exposure and white balance correction
  • Highlight recovery and shadow lifting
  • Colour correction for accurate skin tones
  • Noise reduction for high-ISO images
  • Application of our signature colour profile
  • Straightening and cropping

Stage 4: Creative Retouching (Days 10-18)

Key hero images receive enhanced retouching in Adobe Photoshop:

  • Skin retouching (natural, not over-smoothed)
  • Background cleaning (removing distracting elements)
  • Blemish and temporary mark removal
  • Jewellery enhancement
  • Composite work where required

Stage 5: Quality Control and Delivery (Days 18-21)

Our lead photographer reviews the final gallery personally before delivery. Then images are exported at full resolution (typically 40-50 megapixels per image), uploaded to our private gallery platform, and the delivery link is shared with the couple.

Three weeks of careful work goes into every Weddings Mafia gallery. Book us and experience the difference that professional post-production makes.
